Achyut Ayal travelled to Nepal to help the research of two Massey PhD students Hemanta Yadav (Ecology and conservation of swamp deer) and Binanya Joshi (Effect of Human activities on Sarus Crane, supervisor Weihong Ji). Achyut helped Binaya with methods for data collection, selection of study sites, testing field questionnaire survey etc. The research team has consulted with district forest offices of both Rupandehi and Kapilvastu districts and related stakeholders. Binaya and Achyut visited farmland and wetland of Rupandehi and Kapilvastu districts of Nepal and counted 59 sarus cranes in three days.
Nepal was hit by a massive earthquakes and aftershocks last week. Achyut had minor injuries. Both Hemanta and Binaya and their families are safe. We wish them all the best!
